The main type of spacesuit used by NASA astronauts in the Apollo program, on three flights to Skylab and in the Soyuz-Apollo program from 1968 until the completion of flights on the Apollo spacecraft in 1975. The designation “A7L” stood for NASA as the seventh spacesuit for the Apollo program, designed and manufactured by ILC Dover.
The A7L was an evolutionary development of the ILC A5L and A6L spacesuits. The A5L was the original version of the suit; the A6L added a combined thermal insulation and anti-meteor layer to the suit’s shell. After the fire on the AS-204 ship, the design of the suit was changed to ensure fire resistance and it was designated A7L
